QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE 'Strip' For New Album

MTV.com reports that Joe Barresi, who worked on the QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE's self-titled, 1998 debut, is back in the QOTSA fold, assisting frontman Josh Homme in producing the next album, the follow-up to 2002's "Songs for the Deaf". Singer and guitarist Josh Homme is reportedly handling most of the instruments, except for drums. Homme recently told Launch Radio Networks that both the band and the new songs have been pared down this time around. "It's being stripped back," he said. "It was written already stripped back, you know. It's like, just the bones, you know, are exposed this time around."

While longtime bass player Nick Oliveri was fired earlier this year, part-time vocalist Mark Lanegan left on his own. The difference, says Homme, is that Lanegan is always welcome to come back. "He would be one of the only people, I would say, that there's a strong chance you'll hear Mark's voice somewhere on this record," Homme told Launch. "And, you know, if you have a ticket to a QUEENS show, there's a possibility you'll see Mark walk out."

The new QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE album is expected out later this year.
